BULGARIAn cuisine

Due to its relatively warm climate, it can be said that there is a diverse abundance of vegetables and fruits typical of the land.

Products:

Some of the products that Bulgaria is known for worldwide are yogurt and white cheese (similar to Feta cheese). Always in different forms, these products are continuously present in traditional Bulgarian food.

Soups & Breakfasts:

Bulgarian cuisine is made with a variety of hot and cold soups, an example of cold soup is the tarator which is prepared with yogurt, cucumber, fennel, ground walnut and garlic.

One of the most famous and desired breakfasts in the country is, the "banitsa", it is nothing more than a puff pastry cake, but it’s delicious. It can have different types of fillings, white cheese, spinach, rice, meat, and others.

Other highly desired foods for both breakfasts and snacks are crepes and “buhti”( a kind of fried buns). All of them are very tasty served with jams, honey, yogurt, or white cheese. (I personally prefer them salty and with cheese)

Salads:

This kitchen is famous for its variety of salads, they appear accompanying almost any dish. Vegetables with a unique flavor are produced in the country. For this reason, salads play such an important role in our culinary traditions. The most popular Bulgarian salad is "Shopska", but there are many others worth trying such as "Ovcharska", "Zhutvarska", "Snezhanka”, Roasted pepper salad and many more.

Main dishes:

Among the main dishes, one of the most popular meals are those prepared on the grill (Skara), steaks, meatballs, skewers, "karnache"(a type of very thin and rolled sausage). In Bulgaria meals are also prepared in clay pots (stews) such as "kavarma" or "kapama".

Another typical Bulgarian food is  “sarmi”. These are rice rolls with meat or just rice, wrapped in vine or sour cabbage leaves. They are very popular during Christmas and New Year.

The potato is a product that is very present in Bulgarian recipes. Some of the most popular foods made with potatoes are "ogreten", "patatnik" (which is almost identical to the Spanish tortilla), potato stew, fried potatoes and others.

One of the culinary traditions preserved in Bulgaria is the "Pulnen Sharan" , which is an entire carp filled with tomatoes, garlic, walnuts, onion, etc. This food is often prepared on Saint Nicholas Day.

Delicacies & Beverages:

In Bulgaria, you can taste and different types of sausages and delicacies. Among them, the most famous is the "sudzhuk". It is produced throughout the country but the strongest tradition is in the city of Gorna Oryahovitsa.

A variety of delicacies

These delicacies are generally consumed with a glass (or two :) ) of good wine. Incredible tasting wines are produced in the country. Visitors to Bulgaria are amazed by the diversity of  local alcoholic beverages such as “Rakia”, “mastika” and “menta”(mint-flavored drink).

This is due both to the climate, the characteristic soil.  With no doubt the most popular alcoholic drink in the country is "Rakia". Its produced from fermented grapes or other fruits.

This is not all...

that could be said for Bulgarian culinary richness and drinks. In order to know the magic of traditional Bulgarian food, you must travel the whole country, since each region preserves its traditions and offers varied recipes.
